Curriculum

The crisis communication and media management workshop is designed to impart teachings regarding effective communication during a crisis or an issue. It provides the participants with key learnings and practical tools of communication with stakeholders particularly in a time of crisis. For this purpose a two day workshop is designed in the context of a simulated crisis. A mix of teaching methods are used to give the participants an enriching learning experience.

Curriculum

Crisis first response: How to be the first line of communication when confronted by a crisis suddenly.

Understanding the media: An overview of how the media works (local media in particular), the motives and the scenario.

Second line of response: How to respond to the media and stakeholders early on during the crisis (electronic and print).

Managing the media: How to handle the media in a time of crisis. Examples, tips and tools.

Assembling the team: Who should be involved. Spokesperson tools, abilities and skills. Crisis centre essentials.

The communication process. Crisis communication steps.

Applying the learnings real life scenarios.

Nature of Crisis Communication: Understanding the characteristics of Crisis Comm. What it is, objectives/aims and difference from business goals.

Social Media: Manging social media in a time of crisis.

Best practices: Case studies and examples of crisis communication.

The Press Conference: How to manage the media in a briefing.

Methodology

Presentations. Comprehensive presentations delivered by trainers that cover the curriculum.

Videos. Real life scenarios, training videos and fictional examples used to relate key learnings.

Roleplays. Participant enactments designed to provide life like experience.

Activities. Participants will take part in activities to re-enforce the learnings.
